Things To Do

Itinerary and things to do in London

Due to the abundance of kid-friendly, entertaining, cultural, historic, educational, and family-oriented activities available in the United Kingdom's capital city, we highly recommend a visit to London with kids over any other city in the world. The good news is that many family-friendly activities in London don't cost a dime. London is not cheap by any means, so budget accordingly, but foreign travelers may benefit greatly from the current exchange rates for the British pound. Recently, it has also gotten less expensive to fly to London. The following 2022 itinerary of various London with kids’ ideas, recommendations, reviews, and guidelines are provided.

Several of these family-friendly hotspots in the British capital are old standbys from our own childhoods, while others are common favorites among London's younger visitors. In this article, we'll go through the finest family-friendly activities in and around London, as well as the logistics of taking a trip there with kids.

The following are some of the activities and sights we recommend for families visiting London.

London Full Day Tours

If your time in London is limited but you still want to see as much as possible, choose from one of the many full-day trips available. Even with kids in tow, you can pack a lot into one day in London. St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, a Thames River cruise, and your choice of a cream tea at Harrods or a ride on the London Eye are just some of the highlights of this itinerary.

Explore the area at your own leisure with the help of our convenient navigation features; we've provided you with a number of suggested walking routes to choose from. In addition, as you get closer to famous sights like the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral, and Westminster Abbey, you'll feel a deeper connection to the city's rich history and culture.

Free London Museums for Kids

It's fantastic that most London museums are totally free of charge. It's becoming increasingly common to be asked to make a voluntary donation, although as of this time, doing so was not required.   A quick visit to a museum can last anything from ten minutes to an entire day. If you go to a popular museum, you can count on lines and maybe even a bag search. You should probably double-check if entry is still free, as the government has been lobbying for it to start charging.

Here is a list of some of our favorite London museums:

The Natural History Museum

The National History Museum is currently open, as stated on their official website. This year's Fantastic Beasts display seems like it will be a lot of fun for youngsters. This museum is one of the "big 3" in South Kensington, and you could spend days there and still not see everything. It is without question one of the most spectacular locations on the planet. The building's grand Victorian design is remarkable on its own, but once you're inside, you might find yourself staring down a whale or a dinosaur.

The British Museum

The British Museum is open, according to their website. The Egyptian artefacts in the British Museum are incredible; they are not as good as those in Cairo's Egyptian Museum, and some of the exhibits may reasonably be argued to have been transferred back to Cairo, but if you're into Egyptology, mummies, and hieroglyphs, you'll be in seventh museum paradise. A self-guided audio tour, provided by Vox City, is another option for learning more about the British Museum. You'll get to see some of the most impressive artefacts from human history and culture on display at this museum. With more than 8 million pieces on display, it's no wonder that the British Museum is one of London's most popular tourist destinations.

The British Museum's gift shop is fantastic, selling anything from arty and unusual souvenirs to children's books and toys, so everyone in your group is sure to find something they like. There's a lot to like about this museum, and one of the best features is its proximity to a wide variety of luxuriously appointed London apartment’s ideal for short stays.

The Science Museum

The Science Museum in London, which is adjacent to the Natural History Museum, is also open to the public at no cost (other than by donation). To put it simply, this museum excels as a destination for young visitors. Guests can reserve free tickets to the Science Museum on the museum's website, and the museum is open and accepting visitors.

There are two separate interactive science centers for children, one on the ground floor geared at younger children (toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary schoolers) and one on the second story aimed towards middle school and high school students. The Launchpad, located on the third floor, offers numerous activities for children throughout the day, such as science exhibitions and hands-on exhibits. If you don't feel like waiting in line at the Natural History Museum, you might want to check out the Science Museum instead, or the Victoria and Albert Museum, which is right across the street.

The National Gallery of Art

Embark on a self-guided audio tour of The National Gallery with Vox City. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to visit one of London's most impressive structures, the Trafalgar Square Memorial. The National Gallery has a lavish front, but its extensive art collection is truly breathtaking. Built in 1824, it has since grown to become one of the world's largest art museums, with more than 2,300 works from around Europe and spanning six centuries. Separately, you'll need to buy a ticket to enter the National Gallery.

During the summer and other school vacation times, this museum offers unique programming geared specifically for children. Located just beyond Trafalgar Square, this museum makes for a convenient afternoon out.
